Horsens HK takes their first ever trophee (played December 29th)

In a very interesting and intense final, Horsens had the upperhand and took home the

title for the first time in their second Danish Cup Final ever.

Ikast/Bording EH vs. Horsens HK

The disappointment over loosing the EURO2004-final to Norway was massive for Mette

Sjøberg, but she finally got her first gold when Horsens HK won the Cup.

Many saw Ikast/Bording EH as the clear favorite to take this title, but it was Horsens HK

that had the better start. After 9minutes Horsens went up

with 5 goas (0-5) and Ikast-coach Johansson took his

time-out. 2minutes later Ikast finally got on the score-

board when K.Andersen scored a spectacular long-range

attempt.

Ikast/Bording EH had some serious problems finding their

rytherm and pace in both defence and attack. Especially the players that participated at

the EURO2004 seemed to have problems finding their feet. Hammerseng was terrible, but

so was Knudsen and Milanovic. The best players for Ikast were K.Andersen, Batinic and

goalkeeper Mortensen. These players fought hard to keep track of Horsens and they all-

most closed the gap before halftime (9-10), but were still behind with 3 goals.

In the second half Horsens HK still was in charge much thanks to unbeleaveble

performance from the former Norwegian nt-goalkeeper Nilsen. She had an amazing

night saving allmost everything that Ikast/Bording came with. Nilsen had been superb in

the first half, but in the second she was unbeatable.

With Nilsen taking everything going thru the strong Horsens-defence… Horsens started to

increase the margin to 6 goals (14-20) with 15minutes to go. CK.Pedersen had the

possibility to secure the victory, but her shot from the 7m. spot was saved by Vojcic.

After this miss Horsens started staggering and was unable to score in the following 10

minutes. One of the main reasons to this unsuccessful period was the man-marking of

Horsens-profile Sjøberg. Ikast/Bording saw their chance scoring 4 goals in a row(18-20).

With 7minutes left on the clock Horsens-coach Hylle took his timeout… his team was in a

crisis and in need of some assistance. The most experienced players got the chance to

proove their worth and Horsens started scoring again.

MVP of the Cup-final Nilsen kept her high standard with amazing saves on shots from

Hammerseng, Touray and Batinic, but K.Andersen and Daugaard managed to get the

ball behind the the "wall" and make the final 3minutes

an absolute thriller.

With 2,29minutes remaining of the match… Horsens-

supporters started celebrating as Ladefoged scored

and made a gap of 3 (20-23). A 2min. suspension for

Søndergaard stopped the celebration and at 2,07min.

Daugaard scored again (21-23)… many Horsens supporters were nerve-wrecks.

This match could still go either way.

Horsens HK played safe taking as much time of the clock as possible and with 58seconds

left… Holmgren had the opportunity score, but her effort from 6m. went over the crossbar.

Ikast/Bording desperate of running out of seconds to play… quickly passes the ball to

Daugaard on the left wing who with a lovely loop scores (22-23)… 36seconds to go.

Ikast/Bording EH tries a total offensive-formation. This is their last chance…  they need to

gather the ball as quickly as possible with seconds to spare. 14seconds to go and Horsens-

playmaker CK.Pedersen takes the shot from a narrow angle… Vojcic makes the save!!

Eriksson gains 4 seconds and a red card stopping Vojcic in her attempt to pass the ball.

10seconds to go… Vojcic has the ball in her possession… she passes the ball to K.

Andersen who quickly throws it to Hammerseng(7sec.)… back to K.Andersen who is in the

clear with a great scoring-opportunity(4sec.)… she shoots… Nilsen makes an incredible

save!!! Horsens HK is the Cup-winner 2004/05.

It was the best team that took the trophee. Horsens HK played the best handball for 45

minutes. Ikast/Bording EH started playing well in the last quarter, but it was to late…

Sjøberg(HHK): "This is massive… it was a long and hard road to get this

far and to win the Cup is amazing. Maybe we should have won with greater

margin, but I don't care. Everyone in the team contributed to this triumph.

Nilsen was amazing… I'm just so overjoyed that we actually won".
