DRAMATIC PREMIERE (played in the period 11/9-15/9)   Rounds in
NEWS Kickoff in the Danish handball league for women 2004/2005 started with some spectacular  cronological
thrillers. Two clashes were shown on national television and both matches proved that order…
HBL 2004/05 this season could become the most exciting ever. According to experts no less than 1st ROUND
7 teams will battle for the 4 playoffs spots. 6 of these went head to head on day one and 2nd ROUND
DANISH CUP  all 3 matches were decided with the narrowest margin… a single goal.    3rd ROUND
                4th ROUND
CLUBS Slagelse DT vs. GOG/Gudme H.         5th ROUND
The season kicked off with the match between CL-winners and HBL-runners up   6th ROUND
CL 2004/05 Slagelse DT and playoff-contender GOG/Gudme H.     7th ROUND
Both teams have been busy on the transfer market during the spring and summer, but 8th ROUND
CWC although Slagelse looks to be without the same strength as last season and GOG seems 9th ROUND
to have improved their strength significant… the match started with Slagelse dominance.  10th ROUND
EHF-CUP Slagelse went up with 4 goals and increased their lead to 7 goals (15-8). In the first half it  11th ROUND
was clear that the Slagelse-signings Leganger, Kliukaite, Savic and Hørlykke was more 12th ROUND
prepared for the high pace in the Danish league… as the GOG signings Kareeva,  13th ROUND
Hayafune and Suslina seemed to need more time to settle in. The GOG attack was to  14th ROUND
slow and all the attention going into the middle of the Slagelse-defense… as a result,  15th ROUND
Slagelse made many “easy goals” on fast breaks.       16th ROUND
In the second half the picture was reversed… GOG scored 4 goals in a row (15-14) and 17th ROUND
played faster in both attack and defense. The focus on playing wide in the attack proved 18th ROUND
effective for GOG as the Slagelse-defense became less aggressive. Both teams played an 19th ROUND
even second half, but when GOG went up with two goals (24-26) 4 minutes from the end 20th ROUND
the match seemed to finish with a surprise winner.     21st ROUND
In the last 4 minutes GOG fell apart and Slagelse scored 3 goals to win the opener. The 22nd ROUND
last goal scored by Bojana Popovic (Petrovic) on penalty 30 seconds from the end.

Mølgaard (GOG): “Our nerves became crucial in the end and we lost”.

  Viborg HK vs. Aalborg DH
Few minutes later… defending champion Viborg HK met ambitious Aalborg DH in their
first raid to defend the title, but it was Aalborg DH who controlled the beginning. An
outstanding Lecusanu together with pivot Deriouguina and right wing L. Pedersen
cruised Aalborg to a 5 goal lead (5-10). Then German star-player Jurack showed that she
will be the money worth (estimated salary around 150.000€ a year)… one shot after the
other were put behind Norwegian goalkeeper Ka. Lunde. Jurack was a one-woman army
against the strong Aalborg lineup in the first half.
Although Viborg seemed to slowly be awakening, Aalborg held their lead at the halftime.
In the second half Aalborg continued their impressive performance, but Viborg made
contact (26-26) as both Fruelund and Kiærskou began to show their skills, however the
exciting comeback has to be dedicated to goalie Bager Nørgaard, who in the second half
showed her sky-high potential. From a saving percentage around 25% it took a jump to
45% during the last 20min. of the game.
The green-wave continued and it looked like the points would go to the favorites when
Viborg went ahead with 2 (29-27) 1.30 minutes from the end.
A raid from Lecusanu (29-28) and missed opportunity from Kiærskou and Aalborg still had
the chance to level the match and take a point in the final attack of the match.
This resulted in a penalty to Aalborg, but once again Bager Nørgaard showed her talent
and she took the penalty from Aalborg-captain Astrup. The spectators went ecstatic and
  the Viborg players celebrated.
This was a close match between to equal teams and Aalborg could just as well have won
   it as Viborg.

Jurack (VHK): “We didn’t play well today. We have only had a week of
preparation together with the Olympic-players, but we got an important win”.

The rest of the matches - round up
The last match between two of the 7 playoff-contenders were involving ambitious
FCK Handball and the yellow giant Ikast/Bording EH. As usually Ikast/Bording is troubled
with an obscene large number of injured players and this time wasn’t an exception.
K.Andersen, Daugaard, Batinic and Jovovic were among these. Despite being a wounded
giant Ikast/Bording EH still have lot of potential left in the squad, but so does FCK.
FCK took advantage of a slow start from the favorites and went ahead with 7 goals (10-3).
Ikast/Bording looked to be on the way back into the clash when Milanovic received a
direct red card in the end of the first half. The rest of the match FCK Handball was in front,
but only with few goals and got a well deserved victory.

The first rounds other matches… the promoted team TMS Ringsted got their expected loss
against playoff-contender Randers HK. Not many people thinks TMS Ringsted will survive
their first season in the best league and many sees TMS as already relegated, but
let’s see… it will be a close and exciting season.

Horsens HK surprisingly lost to the other promoted team Team Esbjerg. Horsens is
considered to be able to tease the 7 best clubs from time to time, but after this weak
performance they might have to look downwards in the league table instead of up.

Kolding IF met SK Aarhus in an important match which can be decisive in the run for the
important 8th spot. Disappointing for the home team Kolding lost out in the end after
being in front with 6 goals (20-14) during the second half. The tactics from Aarhus-coach
Holmris turned things around when Aarhus changed their defensive formation from 3-2-1
   to 6-0.
